Definition of Food Security & Nutrition Security
Food security for a household means access by all members at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life, including at a minimum: the ready availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods and the assured ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways (that is, without resorting to emergency food supplies, scavenging, stealing, or other coping strategies).”
Nutrition security means all Americans have consistent and equitable access to healthy, safe, affordable foods essential to optimal health and well-being.
Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.
