FOOD & ENVIRON MENT | PANTRY ACCESSIBILITY
Create A Pantry Environment
To Support Well-Being
1. Location & Service Hours
Creating an easy-to-get-to and visible food pantry with easy-to-understand service hours is key to having a beneficial impact on the community and ensuring that individuals and families in the area can easily access the pantry resources.
- Centralized location or easy to access with public transportation:
- Is there a bus line within one block of the Pantry?
- Is there free public parking available?
- Are there bike racks available?
- Sinage:
- Is there signage indicating the Pantry’s location from the nearest road?
- Is there a sign outside the pantry building entrance and service hours provided outside for people to understand opening and closing times?
- Are outdoor signs posted in all relevant languages?
- Outside of the building cleanliness:
- Is the outside space free of debris and graffiti?
- Outdoor accessibility:
- Is the Pantry accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities? This may involve providing outside ramps, and wide doors. Comply with ADA requirement.
- Website information readily available:
- Does the Pantry have a simple domain name or social media page to easily look up the pantry location, hours, and qualification information online?
- Cancellations and closings are easily understood:
- Are there clear policies on when the pantry will close due to weather or other issues, and are these policies shared with Neighbors regularly?
